Years And Years

25 years ago, I was spending my first day with my first electric guitar.

20 years ago, a band I was eventually in called The Prayer Chain was just forming.

15 years ago, we (t.p.c.) had just wrapped the final recording/mixing of songs for our 1995 release ‘Mercury’.

10 years ago, CUSH was in the studio at the Green Room making our first, oops, I mean ONly album.

5 years ago, I have no idea what I was doing.  Which says something, make no mistake.

2 years ago, I was finishing up work on an album for a friend of 20 years (Jaime Record), playing some of my favorite guitar stuff on it, and vowing to never work on a full-length album all at one time ever again (a vow which I’ve gone back on and everyone has paid the brutal price for it because it takes me so long).

So, its been 10 years since I put something out where I was the primary songwriter.  CUSH did some EP’s, but they were fast, furious, and mostly covers.  And in the last couple of years, I have happily participated in other original endeavors that are close to home.  Yet no original music from a person who considers himself primarily an original-music artist.  I mean, that’s the only reason I do any of this music jive ANYways.  The goal 10 years ago for myself was to get that CUSH record out by the time I was 30 (in May).  We missed that by a month or so, but, hey, we were all working other jobs, and our producer/engineer/studio owner died in the midst of it [and he died, by the way, leaving behind a giant batch of unfinished songs by his original band that he never finished in the studio he owned and lived at because bands like ours were always there, milking the place for every last minute possible, and even though he owned the studio 'hopefully' for his own personal use, he was dependent financially on us being there and couldn't turn down the work].  Now I have the same goal, for one song, by any of the projects I have stirred up where I am a primary songwriter, and the birthday marker is much more embarrassing.

I digress.  Original music.  If you are in the same boat as me, young or old, let my mistakes be your lesson.  If you create, then please don’t wait.

Still reading and still listening. Look forward to hearing a new original song or two, someday.
